AM Falcons Football Win Their First in 2014—Shutting Out Hastings High, 27-0

Our Falcons recorded their first victory of the 2014 season this past Fri Sep. 26, by defeating the visiting Yellow Jackets from Hastings HS.  The final score of 27-0 is indicative of how much the Falcons controlled the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense.  It was also great seeing as many alumni players and parents as I did at the game.  I can’t say enough how much it means to the team and coaches when you show your support like that.  It’s just fantastic!

After a scoreless first quarter, the Falcons scored their first TD midway through the second quarter when Jr. Argenio Albie scored on a 3yd burst.  Later in the second quarter the Falcons made it 14-0 after a 35yd gallop by Jr. Roberto Galindo and that’s how the first half scoring ended.  In the third quarter Sr. James Hanigan, on a QB keeper, scooted in from 15 yds out to make the score 21-0.  Then in the middle of the fourth quarter Sr. Clifton Mathelus rumbled in for a 27yd TD to make the final score 27-0.  The Falcons used a ball control offense to grind out more than 400yds rushing giving Hastings little time to be on offense.  When Hastings did have the ball the Falcon defense rose to the occasion and limited the Yellow Jackets to numerous “3 and out” possessions.  The following are some highlight stats from the game.

# 20 Clifton Mathelus Sr.14 carries 171 yds 1 TD

# 40 Roberto Galindo Jr. 9 carries 101 yards 1 TD

# 11 James Hanigan Sr. Co-Capt 9 carries127 yards 1 TD

#50 Thomas Crowley Sr. Co-Capt ,6 Solo , 4 assists , 2 Sacks,

#20 Clifton Mathelus 4 solo , 4 assist , 1 sack

#44 Joe Denise Sr. Co-Capt 2 solo , 4 assist , 1 int

The Falcons next game is this Thurs Oct 02 HOMECOMING!!  The team is looking to make it two wins in a row as they kickoff 7pm vs. Briarcliff HS.  Remember the game is this THURSDAY!!  Thursday 7pm kickoff at Albertus.  We hope to see a great crowd at the game.  If you wish to contribute home baked goodies or any other snack shack items please contact Patti Crowley asap ( crowlt@verizon.net ).  Take care everyone, have a great week, and see you Thursday at Homecoming!!
