The program
connects students who have leadership potential with each other and the
community through interactive seminars with community leaders. There were
approximately 25 students from Rockland’s high schools who participated this
year.
Among the
goals of the program is to encourage students to recognize their own potential and
give them the tools for improved community involvement. Additionally, the program fosters a
better understanding of contemporary issues through interaction and problem
solving with peers and community leaders.
Teen
Leadership Rockland runs from November through April. Sessions include public speaking, understanding the justice
system, and leadership in county government.
The
students graduated and received certificates at an awards dinner held at the
Casa Mia Manor House on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Speakers included Susan Jaffe, Executive Director of Cornell
Cooperative Extension, KaraLindstrom, 4-H Youth Development Educator, Dr.
AnnMarie DiSiena, TLR Instructor, and Albertus Magnus senior, Alyson Benoit, who
