STUDIO IN ART 1 GRADE 9 ½ CREDIT Full Year Course; meets 2 days a cycle
Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will be introduced to many different aspects of art including: the elements of art and principles of design, art history, artists and their styles, the art of other cultures, careers in art, creative problem solving, and critical analysis. Students will experiment with various mediums. The creative journal/sketchbook keeping process is an integral part of this course. Effort and creative process rather than ability is the main focus of this class.
STUDIO IN ART 1I GRADE 10-12 ½ CREDIT Full Year Course; meets 2 days a cycle Prerequisite: Studio Art I
The intent of this course is an advanced version of Studio Art I with an intense look at the student’s artistic ability. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will continue to utilize many different aspects of art including: the elements and principles of design, art history, artists and their styles, the art of other cultures, careers in art, creative problem solving and critical analysis. Sketchbooks are required.
ART ELECTIVES
The following electives are offered as one-year
sequence courses
GRADE 11-12 DRAWING AND PAINTING I ½ CREDIT
This course is designed to focus on the basic techniques associated with drawing and painting. Students will experiment with mediums, such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, charcoal, pastel chalks, oil pastels, tempera, acrylics, watercolors, inks and computer technology. Still-life, landscapes, architecture, portraits, and the human form are just some of the topics that will be covered in this course. Sketchbooks are required.
DRAWING AND PAINTING II ½ CREDIT
This course is a continuation of Drawing and Painting I with an advanced look at the techniques associated with drawing and painting, more concentration on developing personal skills, and working toward developing a college-ready portfolio. Sketchbooks are required.
GRADE 11-12 PHOTOGRAPHY ½ CREDIT
An introduction to the basic functions of a camera, lighting, composition of subject(s), darkroom processing, creative projects using photographs (collage, print making, cut photos, hand tinting, etc.) and photo manipulation using Adobe Photoshop. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will continue to utilize many different aspects of art including: the elements and principles of design, art history, artists and their styles, the art of other cultures, careers in art, creative problem solving, and critical analysis. Sketchbooks are required.
GRAPIC DESIGN ½ CREDIT
This course will focus on careers in art such as Architectural Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Clothing Design, Toy Design, Advertising Design, Cartooning, and Book Illustration (just to name a few). Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will continue to utilize many different aspects of art including: the elements and principles of design, art history, artists and their styles, the art of other cultures, creative problem solving, and critical analysis. Sketchbooks are required.
GRADE 11-12 3-D DESIGN 1 CREDIT
This course will focus on the three-dimensional aspects of “art in the round” through ceramics, sculpture, and jewelry making based projects. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will continue to utilize many different aspects of art including: the elements and principles of design, art history, artists and their styles, the art of other cultures, creative problem solving and critical analysis. Sketchbooks are required.
AP STUDIO ART GRADES 12 1 CREDIT
This intensive program runs in conjunction with the one-year art electives. Students must submit a portfolio of best works and meet individually and as a group with the teacher to discuss personal goals. Summer assignments will be given and will be submitted for a grade upon return to classes in September. Students will be responsible for AP and studio fees which will include the AP Portfolio course book and poster and slide film and developing.
