  Code for Student Behavior/Dress Guidelines

Student Behavior/Dress Code

Discipline Code for Student Behavior
It is the belief of Albertus Magnus H.S. that each student should be treated as a person who can reasonably be expected to be responsible for his/her own behavior. The school administration will assist each student in this program of personal responsibility with a few sensible rules of conduct, focusing on safety and respect for the rights and property of others and consistently applied in the classrooms and throughout the school. Students who cannot accept responsibility and violate school rules will be required to accept the penalties and more regulated supervision. Please refer to your student handbook for a detailed description of offenses and associated disciplinary actions.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the unauthorized use of another person’s language or ideas and the representation of them as one’s original work. In plain English it is theft. Any work that is plagiarized will result in a 0% grade for the term paper, assignment, test, etc. and will jeopardize a passing grade for the course.

Phone Calls
Students are NOT permitted to receive personal phone calls during the school day. This includes the use of the public phone located outside of the cafeteria. Only in cases of emergency will messages be relayed to the student. Cell phones must be turned OFF during the school day (8:13 a.m. - 2:26 p.m.) This includes lunch periods. Failure to follow this policy will result in confiscation of the cell phone. If a cell phone is confiscated, it must be picked up in the Main Office by a parent at his/her earliest convenience.

Closed Campus
The campus is defined as all the grounds and buildings of Albertus Magnus High School. Once a student enters the campus, he/she may not leave until dismissal. Students who leave the campus without permission will be subject to suspension and/or detention.

Uniform Dress Code
The students at Albertus Magnus High School are expected to appear neat and well groomed at all times. The judgment of the Administration is final in matters of dress and appearance at school. Students who are not in conformity with the Code of Dress and appearance will be subject to disciplinary action.

The basic attire for Male Students consists of school sweater, necktie, khaki colored dress slacks, white dress shirts with collar (long or short sleeve), socks and solid black or dark brown leather shoes. During the early Fall and late Spring, boys may wear the white or maroon collared polo shirt available through Flynn and O’Hara. The basic attire for Female Students consists of school sweater, uniform skirt, white oxford blouse (long or short sleeve) solid black or dark brown leather shoes and stockings/socks. The blouse must be white and it must be the proper size. Girls may wear the available white or maroon polo shirt during the early Fall and late Spring. During the winter months girls are required to wear solid color gray, maroon, navy blue, black or white stockings or tights. Shirts are to be tucked into slacks and skirts at all times. No colored t-shirts or shirts with logos may be worn under the dress shirt or blouse.

Extremes in style, color, or print, excessive zippers, pockets, patches, mandarin collars, thermals, footless leggings, spandex bike pants, T-shirts and shorts are not acceptable. Jeans, work pants, sweatshirt/pants, cargo pants, boots of any kind (hiking, work, etc.), flip flops, backless shoes, sandals, any type of platform shoes and sneakers of any kind and color are not part of the school’s dress code. A doctor’s note is required if sneakers are to be worn for an extended period of time (more than 2 days).

Boys’ hair must be clean, neat and may not exceed the shirt collar in length. Males must be clean-shaven (no facial hair). Sideburns should be trimmed and not past the ear. Also, males may not wear earrings during school hours.

Students may not wear excessive jewelry and make-up, or any type of body piercing or tattoos. Hats, headbands, hoods and any other head covering are not to be worn in the school building at any time during the school day. Outer jackets are not to be worn in class.
