  • Return to Athletics Plan

    Dear AM Families,

Our Athletic Department has finalized the planning for the start of the fall sports season on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Official practices for the sports of Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer and Girls Tennis will begin that day. Please take this time to read our 'Return to Athletics Plan' which includes important health and safety protocols that our student athletes, coaches, and parents/spectators must adhere to in order to make this a successful fall season. For access to this plan click here.

A reminder to parents, please make sure you log into your onCampus account to complete the 'Fall Authorization Forms' that include the medical clearance documentation and the sports code of conduct. No athlete will be allowed to participate in tryouts until all the documents are complete.

It has been a long six months without sports in our community. I am excited to say, that in less than two weeks, we will get to see our outstanding student athletes practicing and competing once again.

Please do not hesitate to contact with me any specific question or concerns prior to the Sept. 29th start date. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • Fall Sports Update - 9/10

    Dear AM Families,
On September 9, a memo was released from NYSPHSAA regarding the status of the ‘high risk sports” of Football, Volleyball and Cheerleading. NY State has made the decision to postpone these sports from the current fall season and move them into a “FALL SPORTS SEASON TWO” season that begins on March 1, 2021. At this time, per Section One directives, these sports are also restricted from voluntary off-season workouts until further guidance is received from the New York State Department of Health. Furthermore, this decision has also pushed back the start date of Spring Sports from March 15 to April 19, 2021.
I understand this news will be a shock to many, but it is encouraging to know that there will be sport seasons for ALL our student athletes in this COVID19 world we are trying to navigate through each day. While athletics will look different this year, our Athletic Department is committed to executing a thorough plan to ensure the health, safety and competitive well-being of our student athletes and coaching staff. A Return to Athletics document is currently being prepared and will be released to families next week to review. We will then host a webinar to educate our athletes and families on these new set of safety protocols to ensure we safely return to Fall Sports starting on September 29.
In my message to the students this week, it is how we are all in this together. If we all buy in and if we all look out for one another we can make the very best of out of a difficult situation. Adversity, if used the right way, can become fuel for an incredible journey and future. I am confident in our student’s ability to rise to the occasion for each other. They will be better because of it.
I want to thank you for your patience and continued support of Albertus Magnus Athletics.

  • Fall Sports Update - 9/4

    Dear AM Families,

Section One announced yesterday that “low/moderate risk” sports such as Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer and Tennis can start practicing on campus beginning on Tuesday, September 29. “High risk” sports such as Cheerleading, Football and Volleyball are still being reviewed by NYSPHSAA and Section One and have not received permission to start. These three sports are being considered for a possible move to a different season. Swimming is also being considered for a different season due to the lack of pools being open around the region. The decision surrounding the start of these sports will be determined prior to September 29.
NYSPHSAA will be providing schools today a Return to Interscholastic Athletics document that will outline safety procedures and protocols specific to each sport. This document will be thoroughly reviewed by our medical, administrative and coaching staff. We will be sure we integrate these guidelines as well as the protocols set forth in our Reopening of School document into our athletic programs.
The athletic department will be hosting a webinar in two weeks for all parents and student athletes to review the new guidance and protocols in place to ensure we return to a safe start on Tuesday, September 29. A date for the webinar will be provided this week. A date for the opening of Fall Sports registration and clearances in OnCampus will be also be provided this week.

While yesterday’s announcement was positive and encouraging, we will continue to advocate for all our Fall student athletes so that they are provided the opportunity to participate and share in the many life lessons that being a part of a team and athletics awards.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming Fall season.

I wish everyone a safe and healthy Labor Day weekend! I am excited to see our athletes back out on the field again!

  • Fall Sports Update

In conjunction with Section 1 Athletics, online registration and medical clearances for Fall Sports will be delayed until more guidance is issued from the Governor Cuomo’s office and the NYSPHSAA Task Force. Offseason workouts and the tentative start date of September 21 has still not yet been approved by the Governor. We will notify our community as more guidance becomes available and when the registration process will begin.
