AM Students Take Part in Capuchin Outreach Program

Mr. Joseph McKenna and several AMHS students joined members of other high schools in the area during the week of June 25th in Garrison for the  Capuchin Outreach Program. 
From Tuesday, June 25th to Monday, July 1st four Albertus Magnus students and faculty member, Mr. Joseph McKenna, joined other high school students from schools such as Fordham Prep, Archbishop Stepinac, Our Lady of Lourdes, John Jay and Ketchum to help serve the poor and needy in the community. It was all part of a program called Capuchin Outreach Program or COP run by the Capuchin Order in Garrison, New York. 

Students and adult leaders along with Father Erik and Father Fred, worked, prayed, ate, and took part in fun activities as a community for seven days and six nights. 

Sophomores Shayla Colon and Janelle Atienza taught approximately 50 young children in Vacation Bible School. Junior, Grace Kent, spent her time comforting the elderly at Cortlandt Manor Nursing Home. Senior, Louis Rodriguez, volunteered his time at Saint Patrick Soup Kitchen and Newburgh Ministries in Newburgh New York. Mr. McKenna was so impressed with how the program was run that he intends to do it every year. He also plans to take more students in future summers.
