Matt Giannettino Named as New Falcon Head Varsity Football Coach!
Albertus Magnus High School’s Head of School, Joe Tweed, is pleased to announce that Mr. Matt Giannettino has been named Albertus Magnus’ next Head Varsity Football Coach.
Coach Matt Giannettino comes to Albertus Magnus from St. John the Baptist on Long Island where he served as Offensive Line Coach and Co-Offensive/Run Game Coordinator for the past four years. Coach Giannettino helped coach an SJB offense that ranked 3rd in the Catholic League in scoring and averaged over 12 yards per carry. The Cougars appeared in back-to-back CHSAA Championship games.
“I am excited to have Coach Giannettino join the Albertus family and lead our Football program into the future,” said Mr. Tweed. “Beyond his tremendous knowledge and passion for the game, Coach Giannettino believes in mentoring young men; ensuring they excel in the classroom, on the field and in building their faith. I am confident that our scholar-athletes are in great hands under his leadership.”
Prior to coaching at SJB, Coach Giannettino played OL and was an All-State and All-League player while winning a CHSAA Championship in 2010 for the Cougars. After high school, he played at SUNY Cortland and later, he transferred to Marist College. He holds a degree in Communications and a Master’s in Education/School Counseling. Coach Giannettino also has a strong connection to youth programs, as he also is the Head Coach for the New York Mercenaries 14u team which is ranked 3rd Nationally. He also has strong ties to youth programs in Rockland County as well as the Tri-State Area.
“Coach Giannettino is a passionate football coach who strives to create leaders and a winning culture through team building, compassion, high energy, and the importance of education,” states Athletic Director Tim Gavan. “He has a clear vision of excellence for the program and for his student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom. His experience as a football coach and school counselor, along with his strong connections with college coaches throughout the country, will truly set our players up for success in high school and beyond.”
